I liked them so much, I bought a pair for my 85-year old mom. She really likes them because they hug her heal (she has a narrow foot), they feel secure on her foot, and she is much more confident walking in her neighborhood now because of "a well-fitting shoe".
For about a decade I wore Cascadias, but one day, they didn't fit well anymore, and I ended up having to heal from foot, knee, and hip pain. After going through several pair, I finally decided to try a different model. The Catamount has been a game changer for my avid walking. I just wish that the soles would last a little longer. I go through the sole in about 3 months.
Hi Renee! The loop on the tongue serves two purposes - it can be used as a "lace keeper" where you can tuck your laces in so they won't snag on the trail and/or it can be used as a gaiter tab to attach a gaiter that will help keep debris out of the shoe.

Hi Sharon! Any of our road running models should be great options for a steep uphill road run. Our trail line, including the Catamount 2, will feature our TrailTack rubber outsole which offers traction on both wet and dry surfaces, however, this outsole is designed for trails as opposed to asphalt.
