Brooks Becomes Official Off-Ice Performance Partner for NHL’s Seattle Kraken
SEATTLE (September 26, 2024) – Brooks Running, a global leader in performance running gear headquartered in Seattle, and the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken have joined forces to advance athletic performance in their hometown – whether that’s on the run or on the ice.
Brooks will become the team’s Official Off-Ice Performance Partner, providing players, coaches, and staff with running footwear and apparel, tapping the brand’s science-backed expertise to support the Kraken with premium performance training gear. In future seasons, Brooks will create custom off-ice Kraken gear for runners and fans alike. Kraken goalie Joey Daccord will also join forces with Brooks as a Player Ambassador for the running brand.
While the brand has focused exclusively on running since 2001, Brooks’ commitment to understanding how humans move leads to best-in-class gear that helps all athletes and active people move faster, further, and healthier.
After calling the Seattle area home for more than 30 years, Brooks is proud to join Alaska Airlines, Starbucks, and other global brands with local roots in supporting the Kraken.
“The Pacific Northwest community values its hometown sports teams and the positive impact athletics have on people’s lives. As the leader in performance running, we’ve been proud to call this area home since 1993,” said Dan Sheridan, CEO of Brooks Running. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Kraken, which has become an incredible tour de force within the Seattle professional sports landscape and throughout the broader community. It’s an honor to align with a like-minded organization to help grow running and sport.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Brooks Running, a brand that is also proud to call Seattle home,” said Tod Leiweke, CEO of the Seattle Kraken. “I am proud to add Brooks to the Kraken family and to work with an organization that shares our values and our commitment to our community.”
The multi-year partnership also connects Brooks’ Future Run program, which supports youth runners and community partners through school team grants, sponsorships, and investments in coaches and mentors, with the Kraken’s One Roof Foundation, which is committed to building a more equitable society where everyone can realize a brighter future through philanthropic practice. Together, Brooks and Kraken will work to increase youth access to sport.
The partnership kicks off ahead of the 2024–25 Kraken season, which opens on Oct. 8 at Climate Pledge Arena, and the team’s inaugural 5K fun run/walk on Oct. 5 at Green Lake Park. Brooks will support the 5K race with a cheer zone, Buoy photo booth, treats, and more. Members of the Brooks Beasts Track Club, Brooks’ middle-distance professional running team, who train in Seattle, will participate in a special fundraising challenge. Starting at the very back of the race pack, Beasts athletes will attempt to work their way to the front; Brooks will donate $1 for every participant each athlete passes. Proceeds from the 5K race and “back of the pack” challenge will benefit the Kraken Hockey Fights Cancer Fund.
