Footwear Designer

General Position Description: 

Responsible for establishing the design strategy for all or some portion of the company’s footwear products.  Determines style, material, and color directions based on input from sales/marketing, merchandising, development and manufacturing staff.  Must keep abreast of fashion trends and consumer needs, support the integrity of the lines/brands and the goals of the company.

 

Basic Responsibilities: 

 

·         Work with product team in setting product line direction

 

·         Create and present upper, midsole, and outsole sketches for in-line and made-to-order/special makeup product based on direction provided by marketing briefs, design briefs, customers, and manager

 

·         Learn and become proficient at creating technical drawings for different footwear components such as midsoles, outsoles, and/or molded upper pieces.

 

·         Learn and become proficient in footwear contruction and materials

 

·         Work, cooperate, and assist the product developers in the development of new products each season

 

·         Create color renderings of in-line shoes for review and presentation

 

·         Assist in the creation and development of marketing needs, sales tools, and promotional items

 

·         Take the responsibility to keep up and learn about the athletic footwear market, different category trends, and product design innovations

 

·         Travel as necessary to Asia, trade shows, retailers, or other external events

 

·         Perform miscellaneous projects as assigned by manager

 

Requirements:

 

1)         Bachelors degree in industrial design or related field

2)         One to three years experience in footwear design

3)         Strong sketching and color rendering capability

4)         Basic ability to read and understand technical drawings and blueprints

5)         Effective communication and presentation skills

6)         Computer hardware and software proficiency as it relates to design work

7)         Ability to work in a team environment

8)         Ability to work professionally and effectively with all departments that make up Brooks Sports, Inc. including Sales, Marketing, Production, etc.
